Important Correction: The Nerve Agent Attack that did Not Occur, Khan Sheikhoun, Syria

In my earlier report released on April 18, 2017 I misinterpreted the wind-direction convention which resulted in my estimates of plume directions being exactly 180° off in direction. This document corrects that error and provides very important new analytic results that follow from that error.
When the error in wind direction is corrected, the conclusion is that if there was a significant sarin release at the crater as alleged by the White House Intelligence Report issued on April 11, 2017 (WHR), the immediate result would have been significant casualties immediately adjacent to the dispersion crater.
The fact that there were numerous television journalists reporting from the alleged sarin release site and there was absolutely no mention of casualties that would have occurred within tens to hundreds of meters of the alleged release site indicates that the WHR was produced without even a cursory low-level review of commercial video data from the site by the US intelligence community. This overwhelmingly supports the conclusion that the WHR identification of the crater as a sarin release site should have been accompanied with an equally solid identification of the area where casualties were caused by the alleged aerosol dispersal. The details of the crater itself unambiguously show that it was not created by the alleged airdropped sarin dispersing munition

Suppose that the USA were trying to hit its target with an airplane raid. Out of one hundred aircraft, at least sixty one would not return to base; and in fact it would be even worse, as the A2/AD system is much more effective against aircraft than against Cruise and Tomahawk missiles.

– More Details About Russian Attitude On Investigation Of Alleged Chemical Attack In Syria’s Idlib Province

In fact, the Western troika submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council that was biased, lacked evidence and also pointed a finger at Syria. It was only formally devoted to investigating the Idlib incident, since it even lacked a provision on the need to work on the ground. Against this backdrop, Russia had no other option but to veto the document. – British chair to both OPCW probes on Syria ‘chemical attack’ is against int’l principle – Lavrov

It is “a strange coincidence” that both OPCW fact-checking missions investigating the alleged chemical attack in Syria’s Idlib are headed by UK citizens, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, adding that it “runs contrary to the principles of an international organization.”

Moscow is concerned about the attempts made by some countries to dictate the OPCW their “hasty judgements and is calling for an immediate investigation on the ground,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said earlier Tuesday.

At least 126 people, including 68 children, were killed and dozens of others sustained injuries on Saturday, when a bomber blew up an explosive-laden car, ripping through several buses carrying evacuees from Kefraya and Foua villages in Idlib as they were waiting in al-Rashidin district to enter the city of Aleppo. – A Look Back At President Trump’s Strike On Syria

At President Trump’s request, the U.S. military attacked an airbase used by the Syrian Arab Air Force (SYAAF) in Homs province towards the beginning of April. According to official reports, the U.S. launched tomahawk cruise missiles at the Shayrat base.
Despite this, the airbase was operational just a few hours after the attack, with Sukhoi Su-22 bombers taking off and landing at the facility, to carry out airstrikes against ISIS terrorists.

– Russia ‘skeptical’ of OPCW probe in Syria

A Russian deputy foreign minister has said Moscow is “skeptical” of the work being carried out by an international organization to probe an alleged chemical attack in Syria, saying Iran, Brazil, and India should be included in any investigation of the purported attack.
A fact-finding mission has been set up by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and has been sent to Syria to interview survivors and gather bio-metric samples from the site of the alleged chemical attack on April 4.

The Nerve Agent Attack in Khan Shaykhun, Syria

I have reviewed the document carefully, and I believe it can be shown, without doubt, that the document does not provide any evidence whatsoever that the US government has concrete knowledge that the government of Syria was the source of the chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun, Syria at roughly 6 to 7 a.m. on April 4, 2017.
In fact, a main piece of evidence that is cited in the document points to an attack that was executed by individuals on the ground, not from an aircraft, on the morning of April 4.

Analysis of the debris as shown in the photographs cited by the White House clearly indicates that the munition was almost certainly placed on the ground with an external detonating explosive on top of it that crushed the container so as to disperse the alleged load of sarin.

William Engdahl – The Hasty Trump Syria Attack Game – It Doesn’t Add Up

The US launch of 59 US Tomahawk cruise missiles at 3:40 am Syrian time on April 7, allegedly aimed to destroy the Syrian Government Shayrat military air base, according to the letter US President Trump sent Congress, was done, “in the vital national security and foreign policy interests” of the United States, done “to degrade Assad’s ability to conduct chemical weapons attacks, and to dissuade the Syrian regime from using or proliferating chemical weapons.” The entire incident leaves huge strategic questions begging serious responsible answers.

Syriens president ger sin syn på gas-attack-händelsen förra veckan

Robert Parry – Trump Withholds Syria-Sarin Evidence

After making the provocative and dangerous charge that Russia is covering up Syria’s use of chemical weapons, the Trump administration withheld key evidence to support its core charge that a Syrian warplane dropped sarin on a northern Syrian town on April 4

In the case of the April 4 chemical-weapons incident in the town of Khan Sheikhoun, which reportedly killed scores of people including young children, I was told that initially the U.S. analysts couldn’t see any warplanes over the area in Idlib province at the suspected time of the poison gas attack but later they detected a drone that they thought might have delivered the bomb.
A Drone Mystery
According to a source, the analysts struggled to identify whose drone it was and where it originated. Despite some technical difficulties in tracing its flight path, analysts eventually came to believe that the flight was launched in Jordan from a Saudi-Israeli special operations base for supporting Syrian rebels, the source said, adding that the suspected reason for the poison gas was to create an incident that would reverse the Trump administration’s announcement in late March that it was no longer seeking the removal of President Bashar al-Assad.
President Trump at a news conference with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on April 5, 2017, at which the President commented on the crisis in Syria.
If indeed that was the motive — and if the source’s information is correct — the operation would have been successful, since the Trump administration has now reversed itself and is pressing Russia to join in ousting Assad who is getting blamed for the latest chemical-weapons incident. – 14-page report completely debunks White House claim on Syria’s chemical attack

“I have reviewed the document carefully, and I believe it can be shown, without doubt, that the document does not provide any evidence whatsoever that the US government has concrete knowledge that the government of Syria was the source of the chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun, Syria at roughly 6 to 7 a.m. on April 4, 2017.”

12 apr – Russia vetoes UN Security Council resolution on Syrian chemical weapons attack

Moscow has vetoed a draft resolution submitted to the UN Security Council which demands that Damascus grant full access to UN inspectors at any military site in Syria, under the threat of military action.
The document was drafted by the US, the UK and France amid an international crisis over the alleged use of chemical weapons in the town of Khan Shaykhun in Syria’s Idlib province on April 4.

In the event of non-compliance with the terms, Syria could be exposed to military action mandated by the UN Security Council under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. – Massive convoy of US military vehicles heads to new base in northern Syria

It would be completely naive to accept American allegations about the supposed chemical attacks on Idlib which occurred three days ago. It was an obvious and odious lie which America then passed on as fact, without allowing a full independent investigation. Yet America believed it, or at least pretended to believe it and their response was to launch 59 American Tomahawk missiles on Syrian airfield Al- Sha’ayrat in Homs province.

2 apr – Syrian Army discovers, destroys rebel tunnels in northeast Damascus

A network of tunnels connecting the rebel-held neighborhood of al-Qaboun in northeast Damascus to the eastern Ghouta region has been discovered and eventually destroyed by the Syrian Army.
The tunnels – two of them used for transporting militants with the third was wide enough to fit in vehicles – have been extensively used to supply the militants in al-Qaboun with fighters, ammunition, supplies and weapons.
