Hoppas att han har rätt… – Analyst: Battle of Southern Syria Propaganda Campaign of US, Saudi Arabia

A senior Syrian political analyst underlined that Saudi Arabia and the United States have launched a media propaganda about the military operations of the military forces trained by them in Jordan in a move to make up for their failures in Syria.
“The terrorist groups in Southern Syria are publicizing that they will begin a war under the title of ‘Battle for a Way to Damascus’ in line with propaganda by the US and Saudi Arabia while they (the militants) are unable to do anything,” Salim Harba told FNA on Tuesday.
He stressed that the victories of the Syrian army in Yabroud and Qalamoun in Damascus countryside and also the army’s continuous advances in Aleppo have all enraged the militants.
“Saudi Arabia has reached the end of the road in the Syria battle, because this country does not have the military knowledge and it only executes the US orders,” Harba said.

Press TV – Russia worried by Saudi’s plan for Syria militants

Russia has raised concerns about Saudi Arabia’s plans to provide the militants in Syria with advanced arms.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said it is worried about reports that Riyadh is seeking to arm the foreign-backed militants in Syria with man-portable air defense systems (MPADS).
Reports say Riyadh is in talks with Pakistan to buy anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons for the militants.
We are seriously concerned about the mass media reports citing and saying that Saudi Arabia is willing to provide the Syrian opposition with MPADS and anti-tank systems made in Pakistan,” the statement said.
It warned that such deals are meant to tip the balance of power in favor of the militants.
This deal will change the balance of power in favor of Syrian opposition militants who began their attacks on Damascus last spring from the southern territories,” the statement added.
It also noted that this would provide the armed extremist groups with better military capability in their planned attack on the capital Damascus in spring.

Franklin Lamb rapporterar från ett Damaskus som är lugnare än på länge. Men!…. frågan är om nya planer håller på att smidas.
‘Coalition of the Willing’ Promotes No Fly Zone

Over the past 30 months of frequent visits to Damascus, the city has never appeared more ‘normal’. Last night this observer was up all night reading and there was not one bombing run or mortar or artillery fire to he heard, a first for more than two years.

Susan Rice, now Obama’s national security adviser, met with Saudi officials last week to discuss a NFZ and related strategy despite White House claims that it is still skeptical. Rice told the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee late last month that the U.S. and Saudi Arabia are working together again on Syria policy after a year of occasional bitter disagreement.

Ominously, the U.S. has already positioned Patriot air defense batteries and F-16 fighter aircraft in Jordan, which would be integral to any no-fly zone.

Press TV – US preparing insurgents for an attack on Damascus

The United States and some of its Arab allies are preparing insurgents fighting against the Syrian government for an attack from the direction of the Jordanian border, hoping the insurgents will be able to reach the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Monday that the attack will originate in Jordan and the US, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan are planning the way it will be launched.

Franklin Lamb – How Homs, Yarmouk, 9.3 Million Syrians Do Not Get Aid by a UN Resolution

Who authored the seemingly designed-to-fail UN Security Council Draft Resolution on delivering urgent humanitarian aid into the Old City of Homs and other besieged areas of conflict-torn Syria? When we know this, much may become clearer with respect to the cynical politicization of the continuing civilian suffering.
The draft resolution was put forward by Australia, Luxembourg, and Jordan, and according to a UN/US congressional source—one who actually worked on rounding up the three countries to front for the US and its allies—none was pleased with the decidedly raw and undiplomatic pressure they received from the office of US UN Ambassador Samantha Power.
When this observer inquired how such a poorly drafted, one-sided, adversary-bashing draft resolution could actually have seen the light of day and been submitted to the UN Security Council, the reply he received was terse: “Ask Samantha.”

– UNSC unanimously approves Syria aid access resolution

The UN Security Council on Saturday unanimously adopted a resolution to boost humanitarian aid access in Syria, where the United Nations says 9.3 million people need help, that threatens to take ”further steps” in the case of non-compliance.

The binding resolution that makes provision for the use of force in the case of non-compliance comes after a deadlock in the council as Syria-allies Russia and China blocked previous humanitarian resolutions. – Syria ready to cooperate with UN aid resolution if it respects sovereignty

Syria said Sunday it is ready to cooperate with a rare UN Security Council resolution to allow humanitarian access, so long as it respects state ”sovereignty.”

CrossTalk: Geneva 2 Intentional Failure? – Now Official: Israel supports Al-Qaeda from the Occupied Syrian Golan

In June 2013 an Austrian UNDOF officer warned that Israel maintains a joint operations room with “jihadists” in the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan and provides active combat support against the Syrian Army. Earlier this year, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, publicly called for “settling Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights within the framework of the Israeli – Palestinian negotiations” . On 19 February, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited a field hospital for “wounded Syrians” in the occupied Golan. The “wounded Syrians”, however, are predominantly fighters under the banners of Al-Qaeda linked brigades.

Phil Greaves – Israel and Saudi Arabia’s Priorities in Syria. Covert Militarism and the “Lebanonization Strategy”

Current developments both inside and outside of Syria have shown that the primary sponsors of the extremist-dominated insurgency – namely, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Israel and Turkey – aren’t quite ready to throw in the towel.
One may be forgiven for thinking the Obama administration had decided to abandon the policy of regime change following the failed attempt to incite intervention, through the chemical weapons casus belli in August. But the harsh reality remains that the above mentioned alliance is indeed continuing its covert military support of the insurgency, in one form or another, in the full knowledge the vast majority of rebels are religious fundamentalists with a sectarian agenda, and vehemently opposed to any form of democracy or political pluralism.

Thierry Meyssan – Washington forever scheming in Syria and in Geneva

While negotiating with one hand in Geneva, with the other Washington is preparing a new military operation against Syria. Whatever the sequence of events, it will be sure to advance its pawns one way or another. War comes at no cost to Washington. It is the Syrians who are dying. To save time, it submitted to the Conference participants a Statement tabled by the ”opposition”. Behind a conciliatory rhetoric, there are at least three traps that Thierry Meyssan breaks down for us. – Syria: Western media coverage duplicitous, seeks to justify eventual intervention – expert

Western news reports on Syria still rely heavily on unreliable sources. That’s according to James Tracy, whose article titled ”The corporate media’s dubious Syria coverage” was posted on the Global Research website. The Voice of Russia contacted the author to ask him about the Western media’s biased approach to covering the situation in Syria.

Russia possesses information that a foreign sponsor of the Syrian opposition is trying to create a new Syrian opposition structure with the purpose of obstructing the peace talks. ”There is information [and we are verifying it] that certain sponsors of the opposition are starting to create a new structure from the groups, which have separated from the National Coalition,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Monday. – Geneva 2 peace talks suspended

In violation of their own signature, the United States adopted in mid-January a plan to rearm the opposition until 30 September 2014. They had nevertheless committed themselves in the final communiqué of Geneva 1 ”to work urgently and intensively to bring about an end to the violence and human rights abuses.” The Pentagon is currently organizing an airlift and taking part in the transportation of jihadists and equipment to Jordan to attack Syria again. According to the Wall Street Journal of 16 February, Saudi Arabia has allegedly provided the rebel army with the antiaircraft missiles that Washington had refused to deliver. – Lavrov plays Hardball with Obama over Call to Pressure Syria

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov rebuked US President Obama’s call on Russia to increase pressure on the Syrian government, saying that if this pressure is of political nature, then he advises Washington to work directly with the Syrian authorities. The US calls on Russia, to “pressure Syria”, come as US-ally Saudi Arabia started arming al-Qaeda brigades in Syria with advanced anti-aircraft and anti-tank missile systems.

Armenian journalist Narine Daneghyan interviews Sharmine Narwani about the sectarian aspects of the Syria war for the Armenian publication Mediamax.

What is disturbing today is the staggering amount of financial assistance flowing to sectarian groups and individuals, both in and out of the Middle East. Part of this comes from the «politics of polarization» – what you might find in an Iranophobic Saudi Arabia or a Shia-hating Pakistani donor. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has dismissed attempts to set some deadlines for the Geneva II international conference on Syria as unconstructive. ”When the Russian-American initiative was announced, it was said clearly that these negotiations should not have any artificially set time parameters, or any artificial deadlines,” Lavrov said at a press conference after talks with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Moscow on Friday.
It is being said today that any further talks are pointless because the [Syrian] government does not want to agree on the composition of a transitional ruling body. We are going in circles. I have already explained why such an approach can hardly be called logical and constructive,” the Russian minister said. – Only strong resolution can help in Syria – US Ambassador

Speaking at an exclusive interview with Al-Alam in Syrian capital Damascus Shaaban said, the United States is struggling to make an exit for itself from the chaos it has been leading in Syria which not only targeted Syria, but was also aimed at “changing the image of the region”.
“Since three years ago and start of the extensive war on Syria, we saw that international criteria have changed; that’s why I think the result of this war is going to show which axis is more powerful and will stay in the region… The result will as well determine characteristics of the regional balance,” she said.
