Almost three years after the Arab Spring began its region-wide sweep – ostensibly in search of democratic change – scant attention has been paid to one of its most dangerous consequences: the fraying of borders.

Russia has expressed its indignation over the lack of coverage that western media have offered to the report on Syrian rebels using chemical weapons against local Kurdish community.

Intervju med Jeremy Salt – voiceofrussia.com – Syria conflict: buffer zone could trigger a large regional war – expert

Mr Salt also added that though before the major suspicion and blame for chemical weapon use was laid on the Syrian government, now he is almost convinced the chemical weapons attack outside Damascus on August of 21th was the “work of one of these armed groups,” possibly, backed up by an outside government. According to Mr Salt, the only way to control the opposition is “to put pressure on the government supporting these groups to either compel them to drop these weapons or face the loss of arms support and provision of money.”
Mr Salt said that, though they deny it, “it is very clear that the Gulf government and particularly Saudi Arabia is supporting these groups.” He added he is not certain which group is being currently supported by Saudi Arabia.

Mr Salt concluded saying that creating a buffer zone would be impossible, because creating it inside Syria would involve setting up a zone with support and control, involving shooting-down any Syrian aircraft passing the buffer zone, which the Syrian government is unlikely to accept. So, what you would be looking at, if any government tried to do that, would be a deepening of this conflict and possible, that would trigger off a large regional war.”

Thierry Meyssan – Saudi suicide

While Saudi Arabia has adopted the Qatari plan to overthrow the Syrian secular regime, Riyadh seems unable to adapt to the sudden withdrawal of the U.S. Not only did the Saudis reject the Russian-American accord but they pursue the war and announce retaliation to ”punish” the United States. For Thierry Meyssan, this stubborness is equivalent to collective suicide by the family of Saud.

On October 21st, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Prince Bandar bin Sultan had invited European diplomats posted in Riyadh to his home. There the head of the secret services narrated Saudi fury against Iranian rapprochement with the U.S. and U.S. military withdrawal from Syria. He is said to have announced to his guests that the kingdom would retaliate by divesting from America. Returning to the episode of the seat on the Security Council, the newspaper clarified that according to Prince Bandar, the statement was not directed against Beijing but against Washington; such a clarification being all the more interesting for not corresponding to the situation.

voiceofrussia.com – Military activities on Syrian-Turkish border could lead to creation of buffer zone – expert

A man was killed in southeastern Turkey by a mortar shell fired from across the border with Syria and, as Michael O’Hanlon, senior fellow at The Brookings Institution, told the Voice of Russia this event could lead to the creation of a buffer zone between the two countries.
“This is exactly the sort of thing that can lead to escalation. Turkey could move its forces let’s say 5 km into northern Syria to establish a buffer zone. That is a very plausible military response if Turkey really starts to feel threatened,” he said in an interview with VoR.

Press TV – KSA provided CW used in Ghouta attack: Syria UN envoy

Syrian Ambassador to the UN Bashar al-Ja’afari says Saudi Arabia has provided the militants in Syria with chemical weapons to carry out the deadly attack of August 21 in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta.
“The Saudi intelligence provided this chemical substance to the rebels in the neighborhood of Damascus and asked them to use it against the government and then to accuse the [Syrian] government of doing so,” Ja’afari said on Friday.
It was “something that we warned against it six months before, in an official letter circulated to the Security Council members and to the [UN] Secretary-General, dated December 17,” he added.

Peter Symonds – Saudi Officials Vent Anger Over US Failure to Attack Syria

In comments to European diplomats last weekend, Saudi Arabia’s intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan confirmed that his country’s decision last Friday not to accept a temporary seat on the UN Security Council was “a message for the US, not the UN.”
Having collaborated closely in the US-led war for regime change in Syria, Saudi Arabia reacted angrily to the Obama administration’s decision to pull back from an imminent missile and air attack on Syria last month. It also has concerns over Washington’s involvement in international talks with Iran, which Riyadh regards as its chief rival in the region.
