Christof Lehmann – Khan al-Assal Massacre to Cover-up Chemical Weapons Use by Jabhat al-Nusrah

Both Russia and Syria have condemned the massacre in Khan al-Assal, committed by the Jabhat al-Nusrah affiliated “Liwaa Ansar al-Khilafa” brigade. Russia is calling for an immediate political settlement of the conflict in Syria. Syria’s Ambassador to Moscow stressed, that the al-Qaeda linked terrorists committed the massacre on 27 July to cover-up the use of chemical weapons in the area.
Russian Foreign Ministry called Khan al-Assal Massacre Genocide. The Russian Foreign Ministry sharply condemned the massacre committed by terrorist groups in the Khan al-Assal district of Aleppo, in which more than 123 Syrians, predominantly unarmed, non-combatant civilians were murdered.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry stressed, that the two terrorist groups had committed the crime of genocide, saying:
“The fighters of the two extremist groups have committed the crime of genocide by killing the captive Syrian officers as well as the pro-government civilians”. – UN chemical weapons investigators to visit three Syrian sites

The head of a UN chemical weapons investigation team, Ake Sellstrom, and the head of the UN Office of Disarmament Affairs, Angela Kane, visited Damascus last week at the invitation of the Syrian government to discuss access.
”On the basis of the information evaluated by the Mission to date and further to the understanding reached with the Government of Syria, the Mission will travel to Syria as soon as possible to contemporaneously investigate three of the reported incidents, including Khan al-Assal,” UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s press office said in a statement.
The United Nations did not identify the other two locations to be visited by investigators.

Finian Cunningham – West war crimes in Syria exposed

There was a time during the 30-month covert dirty war on Syria when the Western governments and mainstream media would make a clamor over reported massacres. Now, despicably, these governments and media just ignore such atrocities.
Why? Because it is increasingly clear that the groups committing these crimes against thousands of Syrian civilians are the foreign-backed mercenaries, whom the Western media and their governments have tried to lionize as “rebels” fighting for “democratic freedom”.
That charade is rapidly disintegrating, exposing not just criminal Western governments sponsoring the violence against civilians, but an entire media industry that is also guilty of war crimes through its willful complicity.
Syrian soldiers patrol the Sheik Said neighborhood of Aleppo. Photo, Sharif via PRESS TVThis is not mere hyperbole. To disseminate false information and lies about conflict – under the guise of independent news – is to be complicit in covering up war crimes. You can hardly get more serious misconduct than to tell lies about crimes against humanity.

Press TV – Syrian forces retake full control of Khaldiyeh in Homs

Syrian forces have managed to retake full control of the key district of Khaldiyeh in the western city of Homs after weeks of heavy clashes with the foreign-backed militants.

Press TV – West worries: Threat posed by militants in Syria begins to sink in

Security experts say thousands of foreign fighters – including 600 from Europe, North America, and Australia – have traveled to Syria to fight against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
Anti-terrorism experts at a security conference in Aspen, Colorado said many of those fighters in Syria travel first to Turkey, where militant facilitators often link them up with specific groups, including the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front. The fighters are then armed by some Western and regional countries.

Christof Lehmann – Syrian Armed Forces Make Progress but Face Onslaught of Foreign-Backed Mercenaries

A new, major military campaign by foreign-backed insurgents in Syria, which analysts expect in August and September is beginning to manifest. During the weekend, al-Qaeda linked insurgents committed a massacre in the Khan al-Assal district of Aleppo, killing at least 123 while many are still reported missing.
The campaign in August and September has, according to intelligence reports, been designed to create the conditions which would justify renewed calls for a no-fly-zone, humanitarian corridors and a foreign intervention. The Syrian Armed Forces however, has so far been limiting the onset of the campaign and is making steady progress with counter-insurgency operations throughout Syria.

Christof Lehmann – Growing Inner-European Discord about Lifting E.U. Ban on Arming Syrian Opposition

The Austrian Foreign Minister, Michael Spindelberger and Germany´s Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle have expressed their opposition against lifting the E.U. ban on arming the Syrian opposition.
Inner-European discord about lifting the ban grows as more details about massacres and chemical weapons use by opposition forces emerge. The inner-European discord also reflects discord with regard to energy-security, regional and international politics.

Christof Lehmann – New Massacre in Khan al-Assal Kills 123, Many Are Reported Missing. Syrian Minister “Terrorists and Countries Supporting Them Will Pay Dearly” – Russia urges an end to Syria bloodshed

Moscow is calling on all responsible sides in Syria to put an end to the bloodshed unleashed by what it termed ”international terrorists,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Monday.
”Over the weekend it became known about the atrocious killing of some 150 people by militants from extremist groups Jabhat al-Nusra and Ansar al-Khilafah during an attack on Khan Assal, a town outside the northern city of Aleppo,” the ministry said in a statement on its website.
Both militant groups, which have conducted joint operations in the past, have claimed credit for taking control of Khan Assal on July 22-23 and killing more than 100 soldiers. The Russian ministry expressed deep condolences to the entire Syrian people and strongly condemned the acts by ”terrorists and their accomplices” on Syrian soil. – Syrian rebels carry out massacre in Aleppo

The Syrian extremists have carried out a massacre in the city of Khan al-Assal in northern Aleppo province to get rid of witnesses of a chemical attack in March, Syrian ambassador to the UN Bashar Jaafari told the UN General Assembly on Monday. – Syria: avoid the worst political solution!, Two French deputies (UMP), including the president of the mission for information on the situation in Syria, warn of the dangers of France’s politics in the region.

Consequently, it’s essential to keep a clear head, and admit that for the moment, only a reasonable compromise with the current regime can ease tension and enable a political transition – with the participation of Russia.

slut på uppdateringen __________________________ – International community must not ignore blood bath arranged by rebels – Syrian FM

On Saturday the Syrian Foreign Ministry sent a message to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in which it notified the Security Council about the massacre carried out by militants in the town of Khan al-Assal 20km west of Aleppo.
The message reads that 132 Syrian citizens – civilians and servicemen – became victims of a massacre carried out by militants from an extremist organisation associated with al-Qaeda.
Hundreds of rebel fighters invaded Khan al-Assal a few days ago to control the area and interrupt food and medication supplies to Aleppo besieged by them, the message reports. The rebels arranged a slaughter of civilians and servicemen taken prisoner in the town.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry places responsibility for this crime upon those countries that support the anti-government gangs in Syria.

Christof Lehmann – US Talks About “Political Solution” while Continuing War Effort against Syria. USA Accountable for Full Responsibility for Syria

Principally, the situation pertaining Syria and the USA has not changed significantly since February 2013, when Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin stated, that:
the US´s announcement not to arm the opposition in Syria does not absolve the USA from its full responsibility for what is taking place in Syria or the practices of the opposition”.
Also in February, Russia’s Ambassador to NATO, Alexander Grutchko, stated, that NATO cannot see every problem as a nail because it perceives itself as a hammer. – Syrian crisis: still a long way to Geneva-2 despite diplomatic efforts

Hyperactivity was observed in the lines of the Syrian crisis – both military and diplomatic – all week. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry had several phone conversations to discuss the preparation for the expected Geneva conference on Syria. The bustle reached its peak on the 26th of July when New York became the site of an informal meeting of 15 UN Security Council member-states with the Syrian opposition represented by Ahmed Jarba, chairman of the Syrian National Coalition.
Vitaly Churkin, permanent representative of the Russian Federation at the United Nations, cautiously reported after the meeting that the delegation of the opposition is prepared to take part in the second conference in Geneva aimed at the settlement of the situation in Syria. This does not mean that the problem of convening the Geneva-2 conference has been solved. However, it is being considered. The main obstacle for the conference is the opposition’s preliminary conditions. In New York the opposition demanded again that the country’s current President Bashar al-Assad should be expelled from the Interim Government planned to set up in Syria.

Christof Lehmann – Positive Talks between UN and Syria after Russian Expert Report on Chemical Weapons

Both UN Representatives in Damascus and the Syrian government describe their discussions about chemical weapons use in Syria as fruitful. The UN team accepted Syria’s invitation, after a report from a Russian expert commission which investigated the use of chemical weapons in the Khan al-Assal district of Aleppo on 5 March concluded, that it was the opposition, and not Syria’s armed forces, that had fired the deadly projectile which killed 25 and injured more than 100.

Thierry Meyssan håller fast vid sin bild, att USA är inställda på en förhandlingslösning och att man nu vill att de olika väpnade grupperna ska ta kål på varandra – Soon, no more obstacles to the new Sykes-Picot

You’ve probably noticed the change in tone of the atlanticist press on the Syrian issue. The ”rebels”, these ”champions of Freedom”, have suddenly turned into fanatical terrorists who tear each other apart. For Thierry Meyssan, there is nothing new under the sun: Washington has simply abandoned the idea of overthrowing Assad and is heading to the Geneva II conference. Next step: the loss of French influence in the region.

What has happened, then, that could have transformed the war of ”liberation” of Syria into this enormous mess? In fact, none of the stakes have changed in a month: the Syrian Arab Army has never used chemical weapons against the ”rebels”, and the latter have not ”radicalized”. However, the U.S. plan that I was the first to bring to light, last November, is slowly unfolding. The current stage is the desertion of the armed opposition.

Syrian opposition groups are ready to attend a new Geneva conference to find an end to the conflict provided the government is committed to relinquish power to a transitional body, diplomats said Friday.
Leaders of the Syrian National Coalition made a strong commitment to fight extremism and terrorism, British UN Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant told reporters following a 3-hour meeting. His remarks were backed by French Ambassador Gerard Araud.
”We received a very positive message from Ahmad al-Jarba, who gave a clear commitment to the Geneva conference and the communique calling for a transitional body,” Grant said.
Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin called the meeting ”useful.”
He added: ”We should not be carried away (by the commitment). The meeting was not to officially recognize the coalition.”

Press TV – Syria army gains ground in clashes in Homs neighborhoods – Arms flow inversion in Syria

Hezbollah concluded in late June and early July, two major transactions with the leaders of the Free Syrian Army. In particular, the Lebanese Resistance acquired anti tank and Russian-made RPG missiles that the rebels had received from Saudi Arabia. The second transaction was pulled off at a very low price ($ 1 million), before the ”rebels” scrammed to the West with their loot. – Hype over Latakia arsenal explosions

For two weeks, the web and the Atlanticist media have been buzzing with rumors about the explosions, on 5 July 2013, at a Syrian Arab Army’s arms depot in the strategic port of Latakia.
According to some, the arsenal was attacked by Israeli aircraft; others claim that it was struck by an Israeli submarine. The arsenal purportedly contained Russian-made missiles.
The Free Syrian Army said it did not participate in this operation. Turkey denied any involvement in the affair. Israel yelped that it was being compromised. The loyalist army did not inform on the quantities of ammunition destroyed. It also failed to indicate whether it had pinpointed the source of the operation.
In reality, the arsenal was attacked from the ground. No aircraft or submarine were ever involved. It can only be asserted that the arsenal was attacked and partially destroyed by unidentified commandos. – Latakia arsenal blast: the Syrian version

According to the Lebanese press agency, Al Khabarpress, President Bashar al-Assad convened a meeting of his joint chiefs of staff to respond to the attack on the stockpile of Yakhont missiles in Latakia.
The operation was conducted by Israeli commandos. – Global Arms Markets as Seen Through the Syrian Lens

One of the functions of the U.S. presence in Benghazi, Libya, was to help facilitate the flow of Libyan arms to Syrian rebels. From the American point of view, sending weapons to Syria not only helps the rebels there, but every SA-7b shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile sent to Syria to be fired at a regime helicopter or MiG fighter is one less missile that can find its way into the hands of militants in the region.

Since the onset of the Syrian crisis, Martin Chulov of the Guardian has continuously been one of the most prominent “journalists” whose coverage, to put kindly, has been skewed beyond any recognition of objective journalism. His narratives have systematically relied on sectarian overtones and cherry picked “activist” quotes from such bastions of objectivity as the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Chulov has gone to great to lengths to portray the conflict in simplistic and sectarian terms: “Assad the Alawite, versus the Sunni majority.”
