Christof Lehmann – Washington, London and Paris Pushing for Middle East War on Fabricated WMD Claims
Following the recent French and British decision to lift an embargo on delivering weapons to armed terrorist groups in Syria, the USA has followed suit, giving US companies permission to sign contracts with outlawed terrorist groups operating in Syria.
The White House decision is accompanied by strongly biased “chemical weapons use” rhetoric and false claims of “evidence”, while Syrian and Russian demands for a full investigation of all incidents of chemical weapons use are omitted.
With the Syrian military continuing to win decisive victories over the foreign-backed insurgents, military experts consider it implausible that arms deliveries alone would change the tide in favor of the subversion.
Suspicions about plans for a direct military intervention are growing…
A victory of the Syrian armed forces over the main body of western paid and armed terrorists in Syria has become all but unavoidable. The last major battle before a decisive victory can be declared is the planned battle to clean out terrorist brigades from Aleppo.
Increased weapons deliveries cannot change the outcome. If US – French and British strategy aims at controlling the regions resources or at denying Iran, Syria and Russia to develop them, a direct military engagement is unavoidable. The current situation, in which Russia is attempting to create a regional strategic balance could easily turn into a regional war, and the risk for a regional war is growing by the day.
Press TV – Sweden warns against US aid to Syria militants
Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has warned against the humanitarian ramifications of the US decision to provide new weapons to militants in Syria, saying the scenario will spark an “arms race” in the Arab country.
“I don’t think the way forward is to get an arms race going in Syria. There’s a risk that that would undermine the conditions for a political process,” Bildt said in a Friday TV interview.
english.ruvr.ru – Syria tops agenda at pre-G8 videoconference
The conflict in Syria topped the agenda at a videoconference Friday among G8 leaders ahead of their summit in Northern Ireland next week, according to a French presidency aide and a statement.
US President Barack Obama and the leaders of France, Germany, Britain and Italy using a videolink had ”an extensive exchange on the subject of the G8 (summit) and in particular on Syria,” the aide to President Francois Hollande said.
The conference took place after the White House said it had concluded that Syria had crossed a US red line by using chemical weapons against rebels battling President Bashar al-Assad’s forces, and that Washington would step up military support to the rebels.

english.ruvr.ru – Sending US arms to Syrian opposition may result in direct military intervention – MP
US arms deliveries to the Syrian opposition will hardly result in an overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime, says the Chairman of the Russian Duma International Affairs Committee, Alexei Pushkov, in an interview with the ITAR-TASS news agency.
“Assad relies on the support of a large, if not the larger part of the population, and this is his important reserve. The al-Assad Army has displayed on numerous occasions that it is quite resistive. The US will hardly manage to drastically change the correlation of forces just by boosting its arms shipments for the opposition” Pushkov says.
Hence the question, he says, just what will the US do next? “I believe”, Pushkov says, the US will follow the path of escalation in hostilities. Now it is arming the rebel fighters, then it will decide on some form of direct internal invasion. Nor can we rule out airstrikes with the use of cruise missiles, coupled with a direct military invasion, provided the previous measures prove fruitless”, the Chairman of the Duma International Affairs Committee said.

Press TV – Russia slams ‘fabricated’ info on Syria’s use of chemical weapons
A senior Russian lawmaker says information on the use of chemical weapons by Syrian forces against militants is ‘fabricated.’
Alexei Pushkov, the head of the Russian foreign policy committee in the lower chamber of parliament, said in a Friday message posted on Twitter that the information has been concocted in a similar fashion as lies were made up about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction prior to the US invasion of the country in 2003.
Press TV – Russia dismisses ‘unconvincing’ US claims on chemical weapons use by Syria
Russia says the United States’ allegations that the Syrian government has used chemical weapons against the foreign-backed militants are ‘unconvincing’.
“…I will say frankly that what was presented to us by the Americans does not look convincing…. It would be hard even to call them facts,” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Foreign Policy Adviser Yuri Ushakov said in a statement on Friday.

”We had a series of consultations on these issues at the expert level with representatives of the United States, as well as the United Kingdom and France. One should say that the references that our partners gave us about alleged instances of using chemical weapons by Syrian troops were not substantiated by convincing facts,” Lukashevich said.
