Russia’s fundamental stance on the Syrian issue is unchangeable, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aide Yury Ushakov said.
”The Russian stance on Syria is a fundamental one, it can have some peculiarities taking into account the situation development but the pillars of this stance remain the same,” Ushakov told reporters at a briefing when commenting on various media reports that Russia could support the idea according to which Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was to play no role during the formation of the Syrian interim government.
Ushakov said that the Russian president had recently had a very busy schedule of talks with his foreign colleagues. In particular, Putin met and had telephone conversations in May with leaders of many countries, including Japan, Egypt, Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, South Africa and Italy.
”Syria was one of the main topics with all of them,” Ushakov said.

The Syrian Army has captured scores of foreign fighters, including those from Qatar and European Union states.
Arab diplomatic sources said the Army detained Qatari military officers as well as a senior ally of the Saudi intelligence community in the rebel-held town of Qusair. They said the Saudi captured near the Lebanese border was identified as an agent of the Saudi intelligence agency.
“Syria has already informed Qatar of the arrests and demanded an explanation,” a diplomat said.

German foreign intelligence agency said that the Syrian Army is capable of conducting successful operations against foreign-backed militants “at will”.
German news website Spiegel Online reported on Wednesday that the head of Germany’s Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), Gerhard Schindler, told security officials that the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is now more stable than it has been in a long timeSyrian Army.
Last summer BND predicted that the Syrian government would collapse by early 2013.
Schindler said the Syrian army could regain control of the entire south of the country by the end of 2013 if the conflict continues as it has over the past weeks.
