Christof Lehmann – Permafrost; Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Blasts USA and Allies for Arming Syria´s Opposition

Russia´s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov calls the report of the independent commission of inquiry biased, arming the Syrian opposition illegal, and states that opposition needs to appoint a team for negotiations.
Russian – US/NATO relations have further deteriorated when Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, on Wednesday, reaffirmed that foreign country´s arming of the Syrian opposition violates international law, and when a Foreign Ministry Spokesperson described the report of the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria for being biased and one-sided as usual.

Russia continues pressing for, that the USA and EU assert their influence over the “opposition”, to bring it to the negotiating table and to end the violence. A statement on the website of the Russian Foreign ministry today, states, “there is no alternative to a diplomatic settlement in Syria”. Within the current diplomatic context this statement signals, that Russia is neither ready or willing to give one more inch with regard to the US/NATO-led decline into international anarchy and barbarism. With the USA, EU, Israel and allies on the other hand bend on continuing their “Greater Middle East Project” no matter what, diplomacy has reached a state of permafrost, resembling the cold-war period.

Kanske inser man att för mycket kommit ut även i mainstream nu – US and Europe in ‘major airlift of arms to Syrian rebels through Zagreb’

english.ruvr.ru – Damascus gets ready for talks, opposition doesn’t

For the first time in two years of the Syrian conflict officials in Damascus has formed a team for holding talks with the opposition. On the other hand, the opposition is not in haste to do the same especially after Paris and London announced plans to supply arms to the Syrian rebels who want to overthrow Bashar Assad. Washington has upheld the plans of providing military assistance to the Syrian opposition.
Speaking in London on Thursday Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Damascus’ team of negotiators may include the Syrian Prime Minister, his first deputy and three ministers. Damascus is taking steps towards the opposition considering Moscow appeals to both parts of the conflict to sit at the negotiating table. We hear from Boris Dolgov, expert from the Center of Arab Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies.
”I would like to remind you that the Syrian government repeatedly declared its readiness to hold talks with the opposition. In his latest statement the Syrian Foreign Minister said that the government was ready to hold talks even with the armed opposition. Later it turned out that the National Coalitionfor SyrianRevolutionary andOpposition Forces does not need such talks.”

english.ruvr.ru – The French and the British governments push for arming their own jihadists in Syria

The situation with the attempts by the British and the French government to get a green light for their arms supplies to the Syrian rebels is somewhat schizophrenic. Both French and British mass media are full of reports on jihadist “volunteers” from Britain and France fighting in Syria on the side of the rebels. For years, Paris and London have been talking about the danger emanating from their homegrown jihadist radicals. And now Paris and London push for sending sophisticated arms to those same people, fighting al-Assad’s regime in Syria.

Press TV – UK admits Syria policy backfiring

Cameron, Hollande and British Foreign Secretary William Hague have separately called for an EU permit to arm Syrian militants and the two leaders are expected to raise the issue at a Brussels summit on Friday.

Moscow also warned that any delivery of weapons will end up in the hands of terrorists active in Syria.
“Considering that the most battleworthy force standing up to Syria’s regular army is admittedly Jabhat al Nusra, a terrorist group, it is easy to see who will become the ‘end user’ of that assistance,” Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.
