31 dec – Syrian troops arrest 4 Turkish fighter pilots in Aleppo – – 4 Turkish jet-fighter pilots arrested in Syria

Syrian troops arrested four Turkish fighter pilots near a military airport in the northern province of Aleppo, a pro-government daily said Monday.
The guarding troops of the Koerc military airport arrested four Turkish officers who were trying to sneak into the airport with an armed group, al-Watan said, giving no further details about the fate of the Turkish pilots but saying that the incident came to explicitly implicate Turkey. – Syria’s govt troops repel attack near Jordan

Syria’s forces loyal to President Bashar Assad have repelled a rebel invasion attempt near the border with Jordan eliminating several militants.
Border police also managed to seize a large pile of weapons, some of them Israeli-made, designated for the Free Syrian Army in the southern Syrian city of Daraa.

Press TV – Syria will respond to any initiative to solve crisis through talks: PM

Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi says Damascus will respond to any initiative meant to resolve the turmoil in Syria through dialogue.

Press TV – Militants blow up gas pipeline in eastern Syria

Militants fighting against the Syrian government have reportedly blown up a section of a gas pipeline in eastern Syria.
The Monday explosion, which was carried out near the city of Deir el-Zour in the oil-rich eastern region of Syria, resulted in the loss of some 1.5 million cubic meters of natural gas.
Syrian officials say the targeted oil field fed electricity plants and a fertilizer factory in the region.
The militants in Syria have repeatedly attacked the country’s oil infrastructure. Last week, the militants said they had seized the al-Tanak oil field also located in eastern Syria.

Ismail Salami – Syria swings between hell and dialogue

What roles Turkey play in Syria’s insurgency?
The US and its allies have been campaigning against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in their new outlets since the unrest began in the country. The United States and Israel have tried to use Turkish Prime Minister Recep Teyyeb Erdogan as a tool to keep the Syrian government away from Hezbollah and Iran. Refugee camps in Turkey have turned into training centers by groups such as al-Qaeda and people who are not Syrian refugees by no means.
In this edition of INFocus we set out an investigative mission in Turkey to uncover its pivotal role in Syria’s insurgency. We will also describe how foreign countries such as America, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Libya are sending weapons into the country.

Webster Tarpley – Brahimi says has Syria plan that world powers may adopt – – Brahimi: Situation in Syria Getting Worse, Plan to be Adopted

International peace envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said on Sunday he has a proposal to end the deadly 21-month conflict there ”that could be adopted by the international community.”
”I have discussed this plan with Russia and Syria… I think this proposal could be adopted by the international community,” the UN and Arab League envoy said in Egypt after meeting League chief Nabil al-Arabi. – Behind the Scenes: Qatari PM Says Syria Proved ‘Unbreakable’

During a meeting between UN-Arab league envoy Lakhdar Brahimi and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad this week, Assad was resilient on basics but showed some flexibility to form committees to discuss the constitution, form an expanded government, and follow up with the process of government’s reforms and achievements to pave the way for national reconciliation.

Thierry Meyssan – The FSA continues to shine like a dead star

While the French press persists in announcing the ”imminent fall” of Syria and the ”flight of Bashar al-Assad,” the reality on the ground has turned around completely. Even though chaos is plaguing most of the territory, the ”liberated zones” have melted like snow in the sun. Deprived of its anchor points, the FSA has been left with no prospects in sight, while Washington and Moscow are poised to blow the whistle to end the game.

The countdown has begun. As soon as the new Obama administration will be confirmed by the Senate, it will present a peace plan for Syria to the Security Council.

Meanwhile back at the UN, things have moved on. The Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) signed a Memorandum with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in September. In October, it monitored CSTO maneuvers in Kazakhstan simulating a deployment of ”blue chapkas” in Syria. In December, the DPKO convened the military representatives of the permanent Security Council members to brief them on the manner in which the deployment could be carried out. Despite their opposition to this solution, the French and the British bowed to the wishes of the United States.

The truth is that on the ground the upper hand is held by the Syrian government. The military situation has been reversed. The French themselves have ceased to mention the ”liberated zones” they yearned to govern through a United Nations mandate. These areas have been steadily shrinking, and those that are still holding out are in the hands of the disreputable Salafists.

Press TV – Russia once again calls for political solution to end crisis in Syria – Russia: opposition stance on Assad a ”dead-end” – – 2013: crunch in Syria?

Russian foreign minister has highlighted that there is still a chance of coming up with a political solution to resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria.
”The confrontation is escalating. But we agree the chance for a political solution remains,” Sergei Lavrov said after talks with UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi on Saturday.
The top diplomat further noted that he was ”surprised” when the opposition’s National Coalition rejected Moscow’s offer for talks.
Lavrov went on to say that nothing can be done to convince Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down.

The UN Syrian ambassador Bashar Jaafari said in a letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations that the Syrian Federation of Chambers of Industry as the representative of economic activities in Aleppo ‘reserves the right to use all international bodies for compensation material and moral of countries that support the armed opposition to the transfer of such compensation for all employees in the city of Aleppo who have been affected. He added that ‘because of the terrorist operations carried out by armed groups in Syria, the significant damage caused to the city of Aleppo at all levels including the humanitarian, economic and cultural exceeded all expectations’. He stated that ‘this is especially true with regard to the cultural and heritage aspects of the city, which was the repository of human cultural heritage for more than seven thousand years.’

Christof Lehmann – The Dynamics of the Crisis in Syria. Conflict Versus Conflict Resolution. (Part 5)

With 2013 approaching, the crisis in Syria is about to enter its second year. Feasible solutions to the crisis seem more far removed than ever after a recent Russia – E.U. Summit in Bruxelles failed to enter into a constructive dialog about the primary causes. The influx of fundamentalist Salafist or Wahabist fighters which have been streaming to Syria since the failure of two major Free Syrian Army assaults on Aleppo in June and July 2012 made it increasingly difficult to build a coherent and credible Syrian political and military opposition among the proponents of regime-change. The international anti Syrian alliance has difficulties in identifying a political or military opposition that could be used as an argument for regime change.

After the discovery of the Pars gas-field in 2007, Iran, Russia, Iraq, Syria formed a cartel to build the 10 billion USD Pars pipeline which traverses all of the above mentioned countries and which is planned to end at the Syrian Mediterranean Coast. The Pars pipeline is currently completed to the outskirts of Damascus, Syria.
Notice also that 2007 was the year when the global economic crisis set in. 2007 was the year when Saudi Arabia declared that the investment of the future is an investment in gas, not oil.
2007 was the year when Qatar sent 10 billion USD to the Freedom and Justice Party of Turkey´s Prime Minister R. Tayyip Erdogan. The money was earmarked for boosting the Turkish Muslim Brotherhood in preparation of a war on Syria.
Never before has the value of the Petro Dollar been as critically challenged as it is today and the USA, together with the UK, literally fighting for the survival of the Dollar and their Dollar based economies.

Halfaya Massacre: Big Terrorist Ruse
Dec 28, 2012 |Nidal Hmedeh – Paris
The Salafist armed militiamen had once again played a huge ruse on the massacre committed in Halfaya, Hama’s Countryside, accentuating that it was nothing but a fabrication. Similar events occurred when ”al-Jazeera” Channel’s reporter in Homs Palestinian Khaled Abu Salah used techniques to fabricate artillery sound effects and massacres. Several areas witnessed massacres committed by the militiamen on the evening of every Arab League and UN Security Council meeting on Syria or the UN envoy visit to Damascus.
Moreover, in Halfaya, the same policy was adopted by these militiamen and their regional and international advocators, since the fake massacre occurred on the evening of UN envoy al-Akhdar al-Ibrahimi’s visit to Damascus.
In this context, sources in the Syrian opposition abroad iterated to ”al-Ahed” news website what ”al-Haqiqa” website – managed by Syrian opposer Nizar Nayouf – had mentioned about the huge ruse the armed terrorists plotted in Halfaya, indicating that, ”the area does not even have a bakery.”
The sources explained what had happened, stating that the battle took place between the Arab Syrian Army and the Salafist militiamen,” adding, ”The Syrian Army was able to annihilate 43 armed gunmen, while 7 civilians who happened to be in the area were killed.”
”13 corpses were not identified, indicating that they are foreign militiamen, since corpses that could not be identified in a small village strikes as an odd matter,” the sources further elaborated, adding that, ”An Aleppo militiaman was identified because he was Syrian, while other names were blackened out because they are non-Syrian.”
Al-Ahed News website was able to acquire the names of the 50 killed men from the Syrian opposition sources, excluding the 13 foreigners killed. All corpses were males, raising questions on why there were not any children or women around the ”bakery” during a bread crisis.

Christof Lehmann – Saudi Smuggling Route to Syria Disclosed

The smuggling route, used for transporting various types of weapons, ammunitions, bombs, military equipment and not least drugs to Iraq begins in Al-Nakhib in the western Al-Anbar province, near the Ar´ar border crossing. From there, the deadly contraband is shipped to the variety of terrorist organizations in Syria who are euphemistically described as “Free Syrian Army” as well as to terrorist organizations who are destabilizing Iraq.
Many of the Saudi weapons and equipment which have been used in military operations as well as in several suicide bombings and attacks in Iraq for years are now being re-routed to boost the foreign led mercenary troops in Syria.

So far, however, both Saudi Arabia and Qatar have failed in their attempt to add a sectarian dimension to the crisis in Syria. In fact, the deployment of Salafist extremists to Syria has united the entire political spectrum within the genuine Syrian political discourse behind the Syrian military and the government.

Syria, ”massacre in al-Qahtanieh” / UN-Arab League peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has extended his visit to Syria until December 30 and FSA gangs and their propaganda prepared next ”massacre” for media (after ”air strike” in Halfaya). Every visit of UN representative to Syria is accompanied by hysteria in the media about another ”massacre” to create a public opinion. This time FSA gangs killed several civilians in al-Qahtanieh town, western al-Raqaa province, including women and children, and published video with their dead bodies. Several terrorists, who participated in this massacre, were killed by Syrian army units after the receiving information from locals.

You “Bakery Airstrike Show” – Biggest Wag the Dog Production Yet

In comparison to the bullshit they have produced in the past, this is definitely a step up. But, as you can see, there are certainly production value issues. You can’t really blame them they are doing the best with the talent they have. After all, which really talented artist wants to use their gifts and hard earned skills to bring about another NATO bombing of civilians for the sake of international bankers and multinational corporations?

West unleashing terrorism against Syria: Mark Glennvideo

Press TV: Do you think that the United States and their allies in the region miscalculated? Do you think they expected things to change a lot more rapidly inside of Syria and now basically they’re reaching a point of no return that anything goes in order to try to bring down the Syrian government?
Glenn: Yes I think that is precisely what we see taking place here. The United States, Israel and these other Western countries that have been behind all of this unrest from the beginning figure that this is going to be another Egypt or another Tunisia or at the very least it’s going to be another Libya.
If the diplomatic pressure and the social pressures were not enough to bring these governments down then a relatively short bombing campaign on the part of NATO would be enough to drive President Assad from power.
The fact of the matter is however that we have other players involved namely Iran, Russia, China and other players who recognize that what is at stake here is not just about Syria, but really for all intents and purposes it’s about the rest of the world.
And this is the reason why the West has miscalculated, you are correct in that analysis, and they have gotten themselves into something much bigger than I think they possibly had imagined.
For the rest of us it is just a big question mark as to whether or not the West and Israel are going to back down or whether they’re going to go the full distance in all this and actually initiate some type of military conflict in Syria that could very easily wind up involving Russia, China, Iran and other major players. – UN-Arab League peace envoy extends visit to Syria

The attack on Halfaya was by the FSA. A car bomb exploded in front of a baker where people had queued up for bread. The FSA, with the aid of British terrorist-enablers, then fashioned a story so that blame would be cast on our army.

‘West faces dangerous game choosing ‘bad’ vs ‘acceptable’ terrorism’ – Lavrov
As the Syrian war grows more sectarian and violent with each day, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov tells RT that Western powers’ habit of dividing terrorists between ”bad and acceptable” could have lasting consequences for the whole world.

Christof Lehmann – Russia – E.U. Meeting in Bruxelles: Risk of Middle East and European War significantly increased

Even though Washington is doing all it can to avoid giving the impression that it is involved in the military aggression against Syria, it is obvious that the conflict would end within weeks after Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the USA and UK stop sponsoring, arming and supervising or commanding the mercenaries in Syria.
In spite of western mainstream media´s attempts to convey the opposite, the Syrian government enjoys the support of the majority of the Syrian population. The massive influx of Salafist extremists who daily commit the most serious atrocities and war crimes on behalf of the NATO/GCC/Zionist alliance have had the effect that the population of Syria rallies in support of its government, its peaceful opposition and in support of the Syrian military.
The Syrian government is by far more stable than one is led to believe by western propaganda. Even if the insurgency would succeed in ousting the Syrian government it is highly unlikely the ousting of the Syrian government and its substitution by Salafist extremists would not warrant a response from both Iran, Hezbolla. The result would invariably be a widening of the conflict into a regional war which may at first be limited to include Lebanon and Israel, but which would be almost impossible to contain.
Russia and China may propose a Security Council Resolution which would secure the deployment of Russian led UN-Peace Keeping Forces in Syria. Behind the scenes such an initiative would most likely to be paralleled by intense negotiations about how to save the ailing Petro Dollar without risking a regional war in the Middle East and Europe.

Ebrahim: Well everyone is saying that a political settlement is approaching. Everyone is saying that we are at the door steps of a new political settlement to the Syrian crisis but if we take a look at the field developments whether inside Syria or outside Syria we will see that this might not be completely true.
Russia hasn’t changed its stance, the United States of America hasn’t changed its stance, foreign-backed insurgents are still launching attacks against government forces, they are trying to enforce their control over areas inside Syria and many people say that this might be an indication of an upcoming settlement because the insurgents are trying to prove that they have control over certain areas in case that a settlement is reached. They managed to freeze at these lines and establish that they have control over certain areas inside Syria.
Everyone is saying it but I think it is a long shot right now.

Press TV: We have reports, I want to know if you can confirm it or not that the insurgents have used chemical weapons on Syrian troops?
Ebrahim: Well I’ll tell you something. The original report came from Russia Today which quoted a field commander who was inside Dara’a speaking to other field commanders inside Dara’a.
They told me that there has been several cases where soldiers died from mysterious reasons, they cannot confirm now the exact cause of death but some of them are speculating that it might be a chemical component of some sort but it is too early now before we see Forensics reports, before a military investigation is carried out to say that how those soldiers were killed. – Syrian opposition surrenders

Leonov also stated that the militants in Syria have focused on the Syrian air defense system as a prime target.

Iraq stops militants from smuggling arms into Syria

The Iraqi army says it has thwarted efforts by militants to smuggle weapons into Syria as well as an attempt by men from different nationalities to infiltrate the neighboring country.
“We have confiscated many weapons terrorists intended to dispatch to so called ‘Free Syrian Army’ in order to aggravate the situation in Syria. We have seized a great number of Kalashnikovs”, Lieutenant Colonel Sadeq Rissan said.
Meanwhile, Iraq’s head of the 15th border security Brigade, Colonel Saleh Jalu Mur’i said the army has “arrested infiltrators from different nationalities on the Iraqi and the Syrian side of the border in addition to heavy weapons”. – USA trappar ner kring Syrien – Syria: Apocalypse Cancelled

The situation around Syria has been eased the last days. The Americans are withdrawing the USS Eisenhower and USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Groups from the Eastern Mediterranean. President Obama expects this step would ‘ease the tension in the region’.
What kind of tension has happened to be a matter of sudden concern of the US Administration after 22 months of direct interference into Syrian affairs? Let’s make a brief outlook on the preceding events.
NATO’s decisionto deploy Patriot missile systems on Turkey-Syria border early December is being rushed. The justification of the deployment by alleged defense of Turkish territory against bomb shells and mines occasionally coming from Syria was ridiculous. The Patriot system is not capable for such protection. It is designed to withstand aviation and has a limited capability to bring down tactical missiles as well. So the Patriots in Turkey can fight Syrian MIG aircrafts only. But this scenario is impossible in case Turkey does not invade Syria.
At the same time US strike groups arrivedto the Eastern Mediterranean indicating NATO preparation for a potential ground intervention.
In response Russia has strengthened its fleet in the area. A Russian strike group headed by the heavy cruiser ‘Moskva’ will be joined by several warships (cruisers, landing ship tanks and destroyers) from the Russian Baltic and Northern Fleets scheduled to arrive to the Eastern Mediterranean next week.

UN being used to further Western agenda in Middle East
Uttalandet som sägs komma från en FN-tjänsteman –

Adama Dieng — Ban Ki-moon’s Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide — issued a statement expressing fear that groups loyal to the Syrian government ”could be subject to large scale reprisal attacks.”
Dieng failed to address the foreign-backed insurgent groups that he feared would carry out the attacks — however — instead saying that any such attacks would be the ”price for crimes committed by the Syrian government.”

Russian forces take Syrian chemical, biological weapons under control

The chemical warfare threat looming over Syria’s civil war and its neighbors has taken an epic turn with the announcement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Saturday, Dec. 22, that “the Syrian government has “consolidated its chemical weapons in one or two locations amid a rebel onslaught and they are under control for the time being.”
He added that Russia, “which has military advisers training Syria’s military, has kept close watch over its chemical arsenal.”
debkafile’s military and intelligence sources report: The Russian foreign minister’s statement was a message to Washington that the transfer of Syria’s weapons of mass destruction to one or two protected sites was under Russian control. This had removed the danger of them falling into the hands of the al Qaeda-affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra ,which had come ominously close Friday, Dec. 21, when the Islamists spearheaded a Syrian rebel assault for the capture of the al-Safira military complex and Bashar Assad’s chemical and biological stores.

Russia Today – The West ‘prays’ Russia and China will continue blocking Syria action

The West has “no appetite” for a military intervention in Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday. At the same time, Moscow’s intelligence shows the Arab country’s chemical arsenal is “so far” secured, he revealed.

So far, the arsenal is under control. The Syrian authorities have gathered all the stock in one or two locations. It used to be scattered all over the country,” the FM said adding that Moscow and Washington’s intelligence agree on the matter.

Our American partners admit that the main threat is rebels seizing the chemical arsenal. The opposition forces include all kinds of groups even ones the US has recently proclaimed terror groups. We tell them: ‘Guys but you support the opposition and its armed struggle. This armed struggle might result in exactly what you fear. You decide on your priorities.’ But there is no clear response to that,” said Lavrov.

Militants fire at Syrian civilian plane in Aleppo airport

Militants fighting against the Syrian government have fired at a civilian plane as it was preparing to take off from Aleppo airport.
A militant commander told Reuters on Friday that snipers from his brigade had hit the wheels of Syrian Airways flight RB201 a day before.
The commander, who gave his name only as Khaldoun, said the attack was a message to the government that all planes, either military or civilian, are within the militants’ reach.
It was the first direct attack on a civilian flight since fighting escalated between foreign-backed militants and government forces a few months ago.

Cleo Paskal – Expert: West Helping Wahabbi Winter Spread to Syria

One person watching the situation very closely is Prof. M D Nalapat, UNESCO Peace Chair, and Director of the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations, Manipal University. Prof. Nalapat has an unusually spot-on record in predicting trends in the region. He was in New York City on September 11, 2001, having just warned that the U.S. was likely to be targeted. At the start of the Arab Spring, he was already predicting a ‘Wahabbi Winter’. And he foresaw the current catastrophic situation in Libya from the early days of the conflict. This is what he has to say about Syria.
Who are the people who have just been recognized by the U.S.?
Nalapat: The U.S. and the EU are essentially recognizing people whose influence disappears outside the borders of NATO member states. On the ground, the groups that President Obama has recognized as the ”legitimate representatives of the Syrian people” have no say whatsoever, and not even a pretense of having, the allegiance of any segment of the Syrian public, nor any influence among any of the groups now battling the Assad regime.

One problem facing the NATO powers is their reliance on the intelligence agencies of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other allied Arab states. Many of these have become infested with Wahabbis, who are expert at conveying a distorted version of ground realities upward to their superiors. In particular, these Wahabbi nests within the Saudi, Qatari and other NATO-allied intelligence services sponsor individuals whom they know to be hostile to the core security interests of the West, but for whom they seek backing. Just as in Afghanistan and Libya, the West is funding elements that will very soon work against them.

Tony Cartalucci – UN Defends NATO’s Premeditated Genocide in Syria, As long-planned sectarian bloodbath unfolds, UN deceitfully labels atrocities as ”reprisals.”

As early as 2007, it was reported that the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, together were not only organizing, funding, training, and arming militants directly linked to Al Qaeda to be used against Syria and Iran, but knew well in advance that by doing so, they would trigger an unprecedented ”cataclysmic conflict” driven by sectarian extremism. Not only was such sectarian violence expected, it was desired ahead of redrawing a new map for the Middle East – one that favored Western corporate-financier and geopolitical interests, while keeping the region weak, divided, and infighting.

21 dec – There were opportunities to put end to Syrian conflict, but they are gone now – Lavrov

There were chances not to escalate the conflict in Syria, but to put it to an end, but they are gone, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told in an exclusive interview with a Russian channel. According to the top official, Russia has tried its best to help find a diplomatic solution for the violence, but was undermined by those countries pushing for immediate intervention.
We are “not in the business of regime change”, Lavrov clarified Russia’s position over the issue once again.
Those who suggest President Assad should leave the country, should address the Syrian president directly, not Russia, Lavrov said. – ‘Free Syrian Army’ evicted from Yarmouk

Thousands of Palestinian refugees have begun to return to the Yarmouk Refugee Camp near Damascus after an agreement was reached between armed Syrian insurgents and the Syrian authorities.

All members of the so-called Free Syrian Army must leave the camp and Syrian troops are not to seize it or launch an assault on it.

– Thousands of Palestinians return to Damascus refugee camp

Press TV – Displaced Palestinians return to refugee camp in Damascus

Palestinians have returned to the Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus after being driven out of their residences due to intense clashes between Syrian government forces and foreign-sponsored militants.
Local media reported that Palestinian refugees started moving back to their homes on Thursday as rebels withdrew from the camp on the southern outskirts of Damascus.
Armed men pushed into the camp earlier this week and fought pitch battles with Syrian troops. The rebels managed to sweep the camp, triggering deadly skirmishes there.

– Rebel Controlled Yarmouk Empties Pending Government Counter-Attack

This is one of the ‘hot-line’ areas of Yarmouk, where on 12/16/12 approximately 400 Jabhat al-Nusra (Nusra Front) militia fighters joined by various other salafist jihadists defeated Palestinian “popular committees” fighters supposedly loyal to Ahmed Jabil’s, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-GC (PFLP-GC). There are various unconfirmed estimates of how many ‘General Command’ fighters defected during the fighting to the rebel forces, but the PFLP-GC admits that some did. Also in the camp are some fighters from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) and the Popular Front (PFLP).

Nearly 70% (UNWRA puts the figure at 90%) of the 180,000 Yarmouk camp residents in the 2.1 square-kilometer camp area have, as of this morning fled. This figure was provided by, Anwar Raja, politburo member of the ‘General Command” with whom this observer had a three hour meeting during the night of 12/18/2012 inside the north edge of Yarmouk. Any camp resident with a MTN or Syriatel mobile phone got a text message, from the Syrian military to leave the camp for their own safety.

Reports from the camp claim that more than half of the GC’s 1000 fighters, mainly younger ones, defected to the rebels. It is difficult to know the truth, but it is fairly clear that Yarmouk has substantially been emptied and that government forces are surrounding the camp, presumably in preparation for a massive counter-attack and or aerial bombardment.
One statement that Ahmed Jebril, who contrary to a New York Times report, has not fled to Iran or Tartous, made that is probably accurate is that “As Yarmouk goes, so goes Damascus. As Damascus goes, so goes Syria”. Jebril’s aid Anwar Raja said that the camp will be used by the rebels to destroy the airport and to launch their “final assault” into the center of Damascus. They showed this observer fragments of ‘home made’ weapons similar to those collected from around Syria by military intelligence who in late October briefed this observer. – Russia ready to work with Syria’s opposition – FM

The Chairman of the International Affairs Committee at the Russia State Duma, Alexei Pushkov, said that the United States and the so-called Friends of Syria signed the Geneva statement with one hand and continued to provide arms and funds to armed groups with the other.
In a statement to SANA’s correspondent in Moscow on Wednesday, Pushkov said that the maneuvering of the Friends of Syria group led matters into a dead end due to their insistence to resolve matters through violence and military action and their rejection of political solutions
Pushkov also held the US responsible for hindering dialogue between the government and the opposition by acknowledging the Doha coalition, warning that the western escalation seeks to topple the government in Syria via constant support for the opposition, adding that Russia has information showing that the armed opposition is connected directly to special units in certain countries which provide them with weapons and training

This threat has not developed suddenly. Indeed the U.S. has been fully aware of the presence of al-Qaeda in the so-called Free Syrian Army since April 20, 2011 when Jihadis captured a truck (or Armoured Personnel Carrier) near Dera’a, and killed all the 18 or 20 soldiers it was carrying not by shooting them but by cutting their throats in the approved Islamic manner. A few days later, the U.S. ambassador in Syria, Robert Ford, called some of his colleagues in Damascus, including the Indian ambassador, and told them that al-Qaeda had arrived in Syria.
April 20, however, was only the beginning. All through the summer and autumn of 2011, and throughout 2012, videos posted by the rebels themselves showed that the armed opposition in Syria has been sliding inexorably into the hands of radical Islamists. Thousands of foreign fighters have poured into Syria from Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, and places as far apart as Pakistan and Chechnya. Syrian television broadcast interviews with numerous young men captured in Homs and elsewhere, who gave graphic descriptions of how they had been recruited by al-Qaeda to fight for Islam against a heretical regime in Syria. The rebels themselves have posted YouTube videos showing them executing captured Syrian soldiers and civilians in the approved manner.
But the Obama administration has steadfastly chosen to believe that the jihadis make up only ‘a tiny fraction’ of the Free Syrian Army, and has continued to provide FSA with logistical support, that is, satellite-based information about Syrian troop and VIP movements, and look the other way while Qatar and Saudi Arabia have provided it with guns and mounted pick-up trucks, mortars and RPGs.
This make-believe game had to end, and it did so when a Libyan ship docked in a Turkish port in September 2012 with 400 tons of weapons for the rebels in Syria. This shipment contained SA-7 portable anti-aircraft missiles and Rocket Propelled Grenades. When interviewed, the captain of the ship admitted that he belonged to an organisation that reported directly to the Libyan government. As if that was not disturbing enough, on October 10, the New York Times reported that most of the weapons that had been supplied by Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia had gone to hard line Islamist groups in Syria. – ‘Brilliant’ work by US Administration turns Syria into yet another terror hotspot – Pushkov

Press TV – MI6-trained militants fuel unrest in Syria: Hisham Jaber, Interview with Hisham Jaber, retired Lebanese Army General

A political analyst tells Press TV that from the very beginning Britain was among the first Western countries that intervened in Syria and provided weapons and intelligence services to the insurgents.
The comments came after the UK government said it seeks a “diplomatic solution” to resolve the unrest in Syria, amid continuing support by certain Western states for the militants in Syria.

Press TV: It is not just the UK but other Western countries that are playing the same tune. They claim they want a diplomatic solution but on the other hand they continue to support the armed opposition and the militants. Jaber: Yes from the beginning and for almost twenty months Britain was among the first Western countries who head intervention in Syria and provided weapons and intelligence services to the insurgents against the regime in Syria.
