Russian FM backs Iran role in settling Syria unrest
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has welcomed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s participation in finding a solution to the Syrian unrest.
Lavrov said in an interview with Moskovskie Novosti daily on Thursday that Moscow supported Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi’s proposal that a quartet group comprising Iran, Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia develop initiatives to address the resolution of the Syrian unrest.

Exactly the same: ask different parties to have dialogue and stand against terrorists because that is how it started. It did not start as marches; the umbrella or cover was the marches, but within those marches you had militants who started shooting civilians and the army at the same time. May be on the tactical level, you could have done something different but as a president you are not tactical, you always take the decision on a strategic level which is something different.

Russia to continue cooperating with Syrian gov’t, opposition
Russia will continue to actively cooperate with the Syrian government and all the opposition forces with the aim of halting violence in Syria, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.
Commenting on the ongoing session of the Syrian National Council in Doha, Lukashevich said that the gathering is attended by a “whole array of opposition groups and figures.” He added that the results of the session are yet to be announced.

Russia can stop the bloodshed in Syria and bring peace to the Middle East, Israeli President Shimon Peres said on Thursday.
“The border with Syria has been silent for many years, and we would like it to stay that way,” Peres said after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
