presstv.ir – Two civilians killed as mortar shells hit Damascus

At least two civilians have been killed and two others injured after a number of mortar shells hit a residential neighborhood in the violence-plagued Syrian capital Damascus.

moonofalabama.org kommer med intressanta spekulationer om vad som kan ligga bakom USA’s plötsliga önskan att stuva om den opposition man ger sitt godkännande åt. Kan det vara så att Thierry Meyssan har rätt i alla fall? (se inlägget 1 nov nedan) – Syria: From Regime Change To Regime-Led Change

The current SNC is adamant against a compromise solution in Syria in which president Assad keeps his job at least until the next Syrian presidential election. But for Russia and China keeping Assad will be the only acceptable political solution. Rejecting pressure from Britain, Turkey and the Gulf monarchies for the use of force the U.S. now also seems to want such a solution:
Another Syrian National Council official at the talks said [U.S. ambassador] Ford had emphasized that Washington is seeking a “political solution” to the 20-month-long national uprising.

Qatar wants an armed overthrow of the Syrian government. It wants regime change at any price. It does not care about the day after. In principle the U.S. is not against a forceful regime change BUT, and that is big but, it wants to know, and if possible control, what happens after the overthrow. It does not want another Middle East war with U.S. troops on the ground and it does not want uncontrolled Syrian chemical weapons flowing around.
The experience from Iraq, and especially the fresh and personal experience from Libya, is that there needs to be a viable plan for the day after. One dead ambassador is enough. No one, including the SNC, Qatar or Brookings Doha, has a viable plan for Syria the day after Assad is gone. Any day after scenario the U.S. can now accept requires to keep the Syrian state intact. That requires an opposition that will accept a temporary continuation of Assad’s rule.
As the unofficial spokesperson David Ignatius explained today:
What does [Obama] want to accomplish? My list: […] a deal for a political transition in Syria (a shorthand Syria summary would be to organize the opposition so that it’s strong enough to bargain, then help win a Nobel Peace Prize for Vladimir Putin).

Turkey serving West in Syria in return for EU membership: Analyst, Interview with director of Middle East Studies center in Beirut, Hisham Jaber

Turkey made a great mistake 20 months ago when it closed that gate which was open by Syria to Turkey and the Arab world and to the east. And Turkey made that [move] in order to open the western gate and to be a member of the European Union.

Turkey also did promise to create a buffer zone and it failed. And Turkey also tried to threaten Syria in many circumstances and tried to push the United States and NATO to participate in a war against Syria and Turkey found that America is not ready to do it, nor is NATO.
And yesterday also, we heard that [Turkish Foreign Minister] Mr. [Ahmet Davut]oglu asked NATO to put Patriot missiles on the borders with Syria and it’s really a joke because nobody believes that Syria will invade Turkey or will launch any missiles against Turkey because Syria is not planning to invade Turkey. It is not planning to make a war against Turkey, but the opposite is right that Turkey is trying also to do everything to create a crisis with Syria.

Finian Cunningham – Cameron, weapons dealer turns peace maker

A spokesman for Cameron said: “The [British] government will make absolutely clear to these groups that they must respect human rights and humanitarian law standards.”
The cynicism of the British and the Americans defies words. These governments are already in contact with such armed groups since the inception of violence; directing the terrorism and ensuring that Syrian society is being ripped asunder. American, British and French Special Forces, along with military intelligence, have been on the ground in that country since at least March 2011. Western weaponry is funneled through Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Jordan and Israel into the hands of foreign mercenaries who think nothing of slaughtering whole villages, slitting the throats of women and children, and shooting captured civilians in the back of the head in cold blood.

Russia Today har intervjuat Syriens president Bashar al-Assad, intervjun kommer att sändas i morgon – Assad to RT: ‘I’m not Western puppet – I have to live and die in Syria’

In an exclusive interview with RT, Syrian President Bashar Assad said he will not leave Syria. Assad also spoke on the calls for armed foreign intervention in Syria, and the possible fallout on the country’s internal conflict and across the region.
“We are the last stronghold of secularism and stability in the region and coexistence, let’s say, it will have a domino effect that will affect the world from the Atlantic to the Pacific and you know the implication on the rest of the world,” Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad told RT in an exclusive interview that will air on Friday, November 9.

telegraph.co.uk – Syrian opposition plans fall apart on eve of Doha conference

Syrian opposition groups were due to convene in the Qatari capital Doha on Thursday to appoint a new and supposedly more representative leadership. But on the eve of the conference three of the dissident bodies included in the US-backed initiative refused to attend, diplomats and opposition figures told the Daily Telegraph.
“There are too many people against this initiative for it to work now,” said a western diplomatic source in Doha.

The plan’s failure is a blow to Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, who had announced it unexpectedly a week ago, and to Britain, which had strongly favoured it.

The opposition meeting will go ahead, but any leadership body is likely to have a majority from the Syrian National Council, a body with little influence on the ground. ”It may secure more funding but at this point in the Syrian war it not about how much money you pump into this, it is about winning the support of the street to regain control. And the street does not support them,” said a western diplomatic source.

Thierry Meyssan – The Chinese solution

There is a solution for peace in Syria. All we need is the will to implement it. Yang Jiechi has imagined a way of avoiding France’s hostility to the implementation of the Geneva agreement.

In a speech at the National University of Singapore, Kofi Annan underlined the fact that the responsibility for the current situation rests on the shoulders of certain Western states – they hijacked the Security Council mandate for the protection of the population of Libya and transformed it into an operation for changing the el-Gaddafi regime. Today, they refuse to condemn terrorism, and are pushing the Syrian population to martyrdom in the hope of finding the opportunity to overthrow the el-Assad regime.

english.farsnews.com, 6 nov – Iraqi Minister: Riyadh Sends Arms to al-Qaeda Forces in Syria through Turkey

”The Saudis are sending arms to al-Qaeda elements in Syria through Turkey,” al-Ameri said.
His remarks came while media reports disclosed in September that a huge arms cargo has been shipped to Turkey to be delivered to terrorists and armed groups in Syria.
”A Libyan ship carrying the largest consignment of weapons for Syria…has docked in Turkey,” said The Times in an article published mid September.

Bill Van Auken – Hillary Clinton’s “Democracy” for Syria

Hillary Clinton’s brazen statements and Washington’s cobbling together of a new leadership for this “revolution” at a luxury hotel in Doha have served to expose the real role of these organizations, which have integrated themselves directly into the operations of US imperialism, serving as willing stooges of the State Department.

Verkligen goda nyheter!
