Geneva talks a good chance of progress on Syria: Lavrov

Intervju med Michel Chossudovsky på Press TV – ‘Covert war waged against Syria’

Turkey has been supplying weapons to an entity involved in crimes against humanity and the killing of civilians, which is casually blamed on the government.
This has been documented in numerous reports that the killing of civilians is the work of the US/NATO sponsored death squads, which are set loose inside Syria.

Matt Carr – US and its allies are more interested in stoking the violence in Syria than preventing it, Western governments are continuing to pour petrol onto the Syrian conflict while talking the language of peace and democracy and their desire to ‘stop the bloodshed’.

Tony Cartalucci – Propagandists Sell ”Vigilante” Solution for Syria

Ned Dobos of Australia’s University of New South Wales, Canberra has given a presentation, served up in the form of an op-ed in the Sydney Morning Herald titled, ”Syria needs a vigilante to save its people,” that can only be described as a new benchmark in Western duplicity. Cued up by the forces of Western imperialism, Dobos plugs in every keyword and talking point flowing through the halls of the very corporate-funded think tanks that have engineered the blood-soaked destabilization in Syria in the first place.

Christof Lehmann – Kurdish Fractions fight NATO-led Free Syrian Army

Leaders of the PKK affiliated Syrian Democratic Union Party, which has a strong political influence in predominantly ethnically Kurdish regions of Syria are determined to stop the bloodshed and massacres of the Free Syrian Army from spreading to ethnically Kurdish areas where the party yields a sufficiently strong influence to resist the FSA. In case of a widening of the conflict, the Democratic Union Party will stand side by side with the Syrian government and the Syrian Military.
Syrian Kurds have good reason to oppose the attempted subversion and stand in solidarity against the foreign backed insurgents which brand themselves Free Syrian Army. What is euphemistically called Free Syrian Army, is in fact a construct with a core consisting of US, NATO, GCC, and Turkish backed Al Qaeda brigades, armed brigades of the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as NATO, GCC, and Turkish Special Forces. The people as well as the political and military fractions of Kurdistan and Syria are aware of, that there is nothing good to be expected from the Free Syrian Army, and in particular, that there is nothing positive to be expected from Turkey, which contrary to Syria maintains a policy of rigorous oppression of Kurdish ethnicity, identity, culture and political influence.

Lavrov to Clinton: We will not support any imposition of recipes

Annan’s plan pushes for the creation of a transitional government that would exclude figures that jeopardize stability.
However, Russia categorically opposes the idea that other countries should dictate the future of Syria, believing that the decision is up to Syrians themselves.
”We will not support and cannot support any meddling from outside or any imposition of recipes. This also concerns the fate of Syria,” Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on the eve of the meeting.

Al-Jaafari.. Syria calls for Adopting Necessary Procedures to Prevent, Stop the Financing of Terrorist Acts in video med Al-Jafaaris tal

Syria’s permanent Envoy to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari said that the terrorist acts in Syria wouldn’t be perpetrated without the support, whether in money, weapon, persons or through providing the political and media backing to the terrorist groups who carry out such acts.
“Syria urges all countries to cooperate in order to implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, and calls for taking the necessary measures to prevent and stop the financing of any terror acts against Syria launched from lands of neighboring countries and not to provide a safe haven to those who plot for the terrorist acts,” al-Jaafari added in a statement at a the UN General Assembly session held to discuss the UN Global Strategy for Combating Terrorism.

Christof Lehmann – Terror Storm on Syria up to Geneva Meeting

With a terrorstom unleashed in Syria, NATO attempts to create a pretext for a war on Syria under Article Five of the Washington Treaty, with the threat of the breakout of a regional war with global consequences, the meeting in Geneva in three days seem like one of the last possible chances to prevent disaster.

Bill Van Auken – US-BACKED GUNMEN BEHIND IKHBARIYA TV MASSACRE

Gunmen stormed a pro-government television station in Syria Wednesday, slaughtering seven employees, wounding others and taking several people hostage. The attack came a day after President Bashar al-Assad declared Syria to be in “a real state of war.”
Killed in the early morning attack on Ikhbariya TV, located in a southern suburb of Damascus, were three journalists and four security guards. The attackers fired automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades at the security guards before ransacking the satellite station’s offices and studios and then setting powerful explosive devices that reduced the buildings to broken and burning rubble.
An outside wall of one of the buildings was splattered with blood, where the station’s employees had been bound, forced to their knees and then executed in cold blood.
The assault on Ikhbariya TV came just one day after the European Union issued new sanctions on sections of Syria’s state-run media, and followed the move earlier this month by the Arab League to force two Pan-Arab satellite companies to black out Syrian channels.

The report “does not reflect the scope of violence committed by militants,” said Vassily Nebenzya, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department for humanitarian cooperation and human rights. These forces, he said, “kill or take hostage civilians, renowned Syrian political, state, municipal, public and religious activists, pilgrims”.
He added: “State institutions and infrastructure facilities are attacked practically on a daily basis. A mine war is in full swing. Militants commit bloody terrorist acts in Syrian cities.” This violence, Nebenzya said, “is fed with money and weapons from abroad.”

Finian Cunningham – SYRIA A VICTIM OF NATO AGGRESSION

What NATO wants is an “act of war” that it can pin on Syria, thus giving the NATO war machine the pseudo legal right to launch an overt military campaign on that country – as opposed to the 15-month covert campaign of aggression that has so far proved ineffective in dislodging the popularly supported Assad government.
The hypocritical, histrionic reaction of Turkey and its NATO allies over the latest downing of a Turkish warplane off the Syrian coast is more reflective of their criminal war agenda across the Middle East than the actual circumstances of the incident.

Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi on Wednesday said the armed terrorist groups perpetrated the worst massacre against journalism and the freedom of media when they executed the Syria media figures in cold blood.
The Minister held those who instigate against Syria and escalate terrorism against its people fully responsible for this massacre.
Minister al-Zoubi said ”This massacre won’t go unpunished and the broadcast of the Syrian al-Ikhbaryia Satellite will not stop and we hold the EU and Arab and International organizations responsible for this massacre.”

Dan Glazebrook – PEACEFUL AND INDEPENDENT SYRIA: US-NATO and WEST’S GREATEST FEAR

This prospect — of an end to the civil war and a negotiated peace that brings about a reform process without destabilising the country — has led to desperation amongst the imperialist powers. Despite their claims to the contrary, a stable Syrian-led process is the last thing they want, as it leaves open the possibility of Syria remaining a strong, independent, anti-imperialist state — exactly the possibility they had sought to eliminate.
Hence, within days of Kofi Anan’s peace plan gaining a positive response from both sides in late March, the imperialist powers openly pledged, for the first time, millions of dollars for the Free Syrian Army: for military equipment, to provide salaries to its soldiers, and to bribe government forces to defect. In other words, terrified that the civil war in Syria is starting to die down, they are setting about institutionalising it. If violent regime change is starting to look unlikely, the hope instead is to keep the country weak and on its knees by sucking its energy into an ongoing civil war.

Nevertheless, the destabilisation agenda is not going according to plan. The internal opposition in Syria is becoming increasingly frustrated with the way things are progressing, and a clear split is emerging between those based outside the country, happy to see Syria consigned to oblivion in order to please their paymasters and further their careers, and those who actually have to live with the consequences.
The reckless attacks carried out by the armed militias are increasingly alienating even those who once had some sympathy for them, especially as their foreign membership and direction is being exposed ever more clearly. Having been proven unable to win and hold territory, these militias are turning to hit- and-run guerrilla tactics. But the guerrilla, as Mao put it, is like a fish that can only survive in a sea of popular support. And that sea is rapidly drying up.

Jorge Capelan and Toni Solo – From Nicaragua to Syria – Journalism is dead, long live psy-warfare …

Journalism has been rendered obsolete by the reporting practice of media in NATO countries and their allies. Recent wars from the Ivory Coast to Libya and now Syria only confirm what was already clear after the chain of wars in the 1990s, in former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Somalia, Rwanda, the Congo and many other places. NATO country information media across the political spectrum are, one way or another, a vital component of NATO war planning and practice in terms of psy-warfare. The same is also true of the aid, development and human rights non-governmental sector of those NATO countries.
The conflicts in Libya and Syria demonstrated that most progressive and radical currents of political opinion will readily collaborate with NATO psy-warfare campaigns against target countries. In general almost all progressive opinion is intimidated by the completely bogus rhetoric of human rights and democracy deployed by the NATO country psy-warfare machinery. The most common expression of this is for the representatives of progressive opinion to try and seek a neutral position that in practice facilitates NATO aggression against its target countries.

VIKTIG OCH VÄRDEFULL ARTIKEL, Joyce Chediac – The U.S. and Syria: Facts you should know

The following timeline reviews the progression of U.S.-NATO intervention in Syria and counteracts the Big Lie in the corporate media aimed at preparing open imperialist military aggression against the Syrian people.
Washington has funneled money to a right-wing Syrian opposition group since at least 2005. (Washington Post, April 16, 2011)
The U.S. reopened its embassy in Damascus in January 2011 after six years. This was no thaw in relations. The new ambassador, Robert S. Ford, who served until October 2011, is a protégé of John Negroponte, who organized death squads in El Salvador in the 1970s and in Iraq while ambassador there in 2004-05. There terror squads killed tens of thousands. Ford served directly under Negroponte at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
Ford “played a central role in laying the groundwork within Syria as well as establishing contacts with opposition groups.” Two months after he arrived in Damascus, the armed insurgency began. (Global Research, May 28)
Armed opposition to Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011 in Daraa, a small town on the Jordanian border. Mass protest movements usually start in large population centers. Later, Saudi Arabia admitted sending weapons to the opposition via Jordan. (RT, March 13) …..

Christof Lehmann – NATO Secretary General Carefully Chosen Words of Disinformation as War Intensifies

it is important to reiterate some facts which, so to speak, shoot down NATO´s disinformation. Hopefully this will be as effective as the Syrian Air Defenses.
It has been well established since latest August 2011 that NATO had Special Forces on the ground in Syria, waging a covert, undeclared and illegal war on Syria. (1)
The War on Syria is waged by a coalition of NATO, Israel, GCC member states, the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda, and indirectly Hamas. It has been actively prepared and implemented since at least 2010. (2) (3)
On Friday the NATO member Turkey committed a an additional blatant violation of international law when it violated Syrian Airspace and Syrian Territorial Waters.
The Turkish Phantom F4 was not shot down by a missile, but by a ground-based anti-aircraft machine gun with a maximum range of 2.5 kilometers.
Syrian authorities have delivered the wreckage to Turkish Authorities together with a report.
Bullet holes at the tail end of the airplanes show that the F4 was hit at the tail end and subsequently lost it´s ability to remain airborne. It also shows that Syria did not use a missile but ground based anti aircraft machine gun fire, after visual contact was established.
When fire was opened on the F4 it flew at an altitude of 100 meters and with a speed of 800km/h.
Syria has offered Turkey to form a joint military technical committee and visit the site of the event to help clarify eventual Turkish doubts. (4)
While the world media focus on the riveting question if NATO will invoke Article Five against Syria, a coordinated assault on key government buildings in Damascus was initiated by NATO led insurgents. (5)

Rick Rozoff – NATO War Council To Target Syria

The U.S. and NATO have been itching for a pretext to attack Syria, and Turkey, the only NATO member to border the country, has always been the pretext which would be employed to justify military action against the Arab nation.
Last Friday’s incident and the NATO meeting following it signal the fourth act in a tragedy that the world community has precious little time to stop.

”The armed group contacted my family by phone, claiming that they are from the so-called free army, asking my family; [do you want to send him back in a box or torn apart in sacks]..” Said added.

‘Turkey threat, retaliation useless against Syria’, Press TV has conducted an interview with Tahsin al-Halabi, political analyst

Eventually I don’t expect that Turkey would make more escalations against Syria. It is enough that Turkey has given refuge for those military groups on its territory against Syria and other refugees in order to invest them against the Syrian people and the Syrian leadership.

Violence continues in Syria’s Homs, footage reveals rebels occupying homes

Exclusive footage by Press TV shows that Homs now resembles a ghost town with empty streets and deserted homes, while its Joret al-Shayyah neighborhood has witnessed the most violence with armed groups being involved in street fighting.
”The footage also shows how the armed groups fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad have taken over the houses of the civilians and turned them into the corridors for their street battles.”

Press TV has conducted an interview with Abayomi Azikiwe, director of the Pan-African News Wire, from Detroit

A report has quoted some US and Arab intelligence officials as saying ”CIA officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey,” helping anti-Syria opposition groups.
The New York Times report noted that CIA officers are helping to decide which gangs inside the Arab coiuntry will ”receive arms to fight the Syrian government.”
The report added that Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have paid for the transport of weaponry into Syria.
Syria has recently said in a statement, ”The US administration is pushing forth with its flagrant interference in Syria’s internal affairs and its backing of armed terrorist groups.”
The statement also condemned Washington for ”distorting the truth and what is happening on the ground while encouraging armed terrorist groups to carry out more massacres… throughout the country.”

Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey – Turkish Fighter Aircraft: Making some sense

Predictably, Turkey has reacted to the destruction of one of its aircraft with stupidity and cowardice and predictably, the western leaders have jumped at the chance to up the stakes in an internal conflict in Syria which they are aiding and abetting by providing terrorists with weaponry. Through Turkey.

Are the Turkish President and Foreign Minister stupid, or what? What do they expect? You allow your territory to be used to arm terrorists to destabilise a sovereign nation, send a Phantom F-4 military assault aircraft flying fast and low into that country’s territorial waters (not to test Turkish radar but yes, to test the Syrian anti-aircraft system) and then when it is shot down, run crying to NATO because you got your nose smacked in?

Despite all of the efforts of the UN and Russia and other countries that have influence in the region, the West continues to do anything and everything that it can to facilitate and provoke an invasion of Syria, and it is clear that those beating the drums of war have no interest in the untold number of lives that will be snuffed out by the hell they are preparing to unleash on the people of Syria, who are already suffering, nor on the very distinct possibility that it will ignite a larger violent conflict in the region.

Scott Creighton – Israel, NATO’s Little Helper: The Overlooked Player in the Syrian Destabilization Campaign

All too often we find ourselves talking about the United States and Britain’s destabilization campaign in Syria and we forget to mention the other partner in crime working to break the country up into little pieces: NATO’s Little Helper, Israel.
Israel’s involvement in the terrorist centered destabilization campaign is extensive to say the least and their motives to assist in the NATO efforts are just as obvious.
Israel has more than a few prime motivations to see that the current regime in Syria is overthrown and replaced by a puppet regime friendly to the west and Israel in particular. The first and foremost, is the survival of Israel itself and this has nothing to do with some existential threat posed by Syria.

video 4,5 min – Ron Paul, presidentkandidat i USA – Syria is none of our business!

We’re in 130 countries, 900 bases. Iran is surrounded by 45 of our bases. They’re no threat to anybody. That’s all a concocted scheme to take over their oil. And they have to get you know, they have to take over Syria in order to go on to Iran. So this is just the plan of those who love intervention and love our empire. And the American people have fallen for this before. And I’m just trying to wake up the American people and say don’t fall for these lies again. Iraq, it’s a big shambles right now. ~ Dr. Ron Paul

Press TV – US coup in Syria ended in failure: Iran Cmdr

A senior Iranian commander says Syria’s present situation indicates the defeat imposed on America and its allies by Damascus and the resistance movement.
“Today, it can be said with certainty that the dossier of the US coup in Syria has been closed with the defeat of the global arrogance,” said Deputy Head of the Iranian Armed Forces’ Joint Chiefs of Staff Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri on Sunday.

The Iranian commander went on to say that the enemies of Syria seek to achieve their objectives through military means and terrorist activities, noting that such measures have merely led to the massacre of innocent people in the country.
